The Francis Howell School District (FHSD) is proud to announce that Jordan Fruit, custodian at Warren Elementary, has been selected as the 2017 FHSD Support Staff Employee of the Year. Fruit has distinguished herself as a dedicated employee by continually going above and beyond to support her school community.
“Jordan is a role model to our students and serves as an example of positivity and exceeding expectations,” said Warren Elementary Principal Michele Christopher. “Jordan has immersed herself in the school community in every way, putting student interests first and establishing positive relationships at the forefront of all she does.”
Fruit not only works hard to ensure that Warren is a safe and clean building for students and staff to work and learn, but a positive environment as well. At the beginning of the school year, she noticed that some of the kindergarteners were struggling with adjusting to school. She observed their behavior charts and watched for the day that they all had good behavior, and then surprised them with treat and a note. On another occasion, she recognized an entire class after they created a positivity wall to recognize each other and say kind words.
She is a role model for students because she actively demonstrates her dedication to Warren and its students, and steps up to help where needed. During a recent unannounced intruder drill, she attended to her duties and then assisted a paraprofessional with two special needs students and helped keep them calm during the drill. She often arranges her work schedule so that she is able to attend school events because she likes to be amongst the kids and teachers. At a reading event this year, one of the students’ parents could not attend, so she stepped up to the plate to read the Pokémon Handbook with the student and impressed him with her knowledge of Pokémon.
“I’m always looking out for students at my school, to keep them safe and happy,” shared Fruit. “I lend them a listening ear if they are sad and excitement if they have great news to share.”
Fruit will be honored, along with the building Support Staff Employees of the Year, Teachers of the Year, Howell of Fame Award winners, and District retirees at the annual Howell of Fame Awards Ceremony on Monday, May 1, 2017.
